BLAST FROM THE PAST – OUTDOOR CONCERT

Welcome back David Scotti and his group, The New York Exceptions. They are an exceptional tribute group who will be entertaining us with rock and roll songs of two decades. Dance along to the nostalgic music of the 50s and 60s. Songs to enjoy include “My Girl,” “This Magic Moment,” “Under the Boardwalk,” and “The Wanderer,” to name a few. If it rains, concert will be held indoors.

ONE STOP PONY BAND – OUTDOOR CONCERT

Brian La Blanc has created the most unique band, capturing the voices of many of your favorite musicians. One Stop Pony Band performs a multi-artist tribute to Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet and Neil Diamond, to name a few. Come, enjoy and listen to the authenticity of Brian’s voice performing these great singers/songs. He has performed at many venues throughout the metropolitan area.

MINORITY SMALL BUSINESS SEMINAR

Do you have an idea that you are thinking of turning into a small business? Attend this two part seminar given by La Fuerza CDC, a community development financial institute whose goal is to promote economic growth in Long Island. They provide minority and women owned enterprises   access to capital, business development services and other tools which can create jobs, and long    term prosperity.
Part I – Monday, July 24, 7:00

The first part will cover developing your idea using the Business Model Canvas, business formation and projections of income and expenses. Open to all.
Part II – Wednesday, August 9, 7:00
The second part will cover record keeping, bookkeeping, marketing and capital needs including preparing for a loan. Open to all.

CUSTOMIZE A LIBRARY TOTE BAG

Channel your inner artist and create a piece of art that is beautiful, unique and useful. Come to the Library and have fun decorating a tote bag to hold your books. Afterwards there will be a talk about the very important Medicare program. This is the second in the series sponsored by EmblemHealth.

ADULT SUMMER READING CLUB – BUILDING A BETTER WORLD

Summer is here and the Westbury Library is adding two extra sessions of book discussions in the months of July and August. In addition to our Wednesday evening meetings on July 5 and August 2 at 7:30, we will also meet on two Thursday afternoons, July 6 and August 3 at 2:30. The same book will be discussed at both sessions each month. Light refreshments will be served.

This six-hour defensive driving class is offered by AARP and will help you refresh your driving skills, reduce your points and your auto insurance premium. Fee $20 for AARP members, $25 for non-members, payable to AARP. Out-of-district residents may register September 18. Class limit 35.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF THE WESTBURYS

THE COTTAGE – THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF THE WESTBURYS

Located in the courtyard between the Adult Library and the Children’s Library. Hours of operation for the public are Wednesdays, 10:00 to 1:00, Thursdays 1:00 to 5:00 and 12:00 to 4:00 on the first Saturday of each month, except July and August. ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

The Historical Society is starting an oral history project to interview long-time residents of Westbury, Old Westbury, New Cassel and Carle Place. To participate contact Susan Kovarik at the Cottage.

WESTBURY WALKING TOUR

The Historical Society has created a self-guided walking tour pamphlet, “Westbury History in Stride.” It is not necessary to do the walking to enjoy reading and remembering some of the places which were part of Westbury’s history. The tour begins at the Quaker Meeting House with the A.M.E. Zion Church as another of the many points of interest. Copies are available at the cottage for a voluntary donation.

COMMUNITY CRAFTERS

Come, share your love of crafting and join the Community Crafters Night where the community can come together through crafting. Bring your portable projects to work on, share, learn and explore with other crafters. Knit, crochet, weave, quilt, scrap book, and jewelry making are a few of the crafts to explore. Most of the time, it meets the first Thursday of every month from 6:00 – 8:30.
